Dear bridge buddies,
My English bridge book 'The Amazing Queen' is on sale in USA and Europe. It is available from Jing Kung Book Store opposite Queen's College; or from Bridge House. The sale price at 20% discount is $120. You can order through me at ckmckmwong @yahoo.com.
The book is based on a collection from over 2,000 hands. In 2010 the international awards for the best declarer play and the best defence went to plays similar to my Bols Tip. The book starts with 'An Off-shape Double' and ends with 'A Submarine in Heaven'. The book features many hands from the Netherlands, currently world champion. It is like a prediction come true.
It focuses on winning bridge by skillful bidding and play surrounding the queens. An example is holding AQx and the dummy to your right has the king, the only exit card to defeat the hand is a small card. It has a bridge vocabulary and bridge tips opening each chapter. For example a queen bid is a bid considering the queen values and positions.
Brilliances include Meckstroth, Helgemo, Helness, Duboin, Versace, Chagas, SUN Ming, FU Chong, Fredin, Von Armin, Kaplan, Balicki, L Cohen, .... They are world or regional champions. There are representations from all continents. I played about one sixth of the hands.
The book has eight chapters, from bidding, to declarer play, to opening leads, to responses to opening leads, to exit cards in mid play, to entries, to communication, to defence surrounding queens, to Bols Tip category hands, to advanced Bols Tip hands, to defence with strong trumps. There would be misses by Zia, Hamman, Sontag, Weichsel, and success from less known names, Lokeberg (Ace sacrifice), Datar (false Queen sacrifice), Courtney (camouflage) and Askari (real Queen sacrifice)..........
There would be Emperor's coup, Deschapelles coup, coup en passant, trump coup, Grand coup, Bath coup, Morton's fork, dentist coup....... There would be a magical formula for 3NT, anti-law of total tricks, reversed principle of restricted choice, law of grand slam....The target readers are from club players to world class, who would like to win events with skills surrounding the queens.
There have already been reports of success at bridge events from first readers. Their responses have been exciting. I attach a file showing the front and back cover of the book.
Best of bridge
to everyone,
Clement Wong
